Kioxia edges up as margin positions weigh on the stock

The Tokyo-listed NAND maker gained in its latest session, yet two outlets say borrowed-money positions are pressing on the shares after a steep three-week slide.

Kioxia (285A), the NAND flash memory maker listed on the Prime market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closed at ¥13,600 on Oct 19, 1.68% above its Oct 16 close of ¥13,375. The gain did little to repair a sharp slide: the shares remain 23.51% below their Sept 28 level.

All prices here are adjusted for Kioxia’s 3-for-1 stock split of Oct 1, 2026.

Margin positions at a loss press on the stock

Two outlets tied the pressure to margin trading, in which investors pay for shares with money borrowed from a broker. The Japan Times reported on Oct 19 that margin positions in Kioxia now showing losses are pressing on the stock. Seoul Economic Daily reported the same day that margin debt in Kioxia shares stands at a record and is a drag on the price. It did not give a figure for that debt.

Flash export prices dipped in September while DRAM rose

South Korea’s export price index for flash memory, a gauge of NAND prices and not Kioxia’s own, stood at 245.72 (2020=100) in September 2026. That was 0.69% lower than in August. It was still 244.05% higher than a year earlier and 95.02% higher than in January.

South Korea’s DRAM export price index rose 2.26% from August to 289.16 in September, and was 247.72% above its level a year before.

Elsewhere in memory on Oct 19, Barron’s reported that Micron shares climbed after CXMT, a Chinese competitor in memory chips, projected strong growth in revenue.

In dollars, a slightly steeper fall since Sept 28

The Oct 19 close equals US$86.14 at 157.885 yen per dollar, the Bank of Korea rate for the day, a 1.81% rise from Oct 16 in dollar terms. From Sept 28 to Oct 19, the shares fell 23.65% in dollars as the yen weakened 0.18%, from 157.595 to 157.885 per dollar.
