SanDisk shares bounce 5.5% after a three-week slide

The NAND flash maker gained more than three times as much as the PHLX Semiconductor Index on Monday, recovering part of a steep drop in AI-linked memory stocks.

SanDisk shares climbed 5.53% on Monday, Oct 19, closing at US$1,371.12 on Nasdaq, up from US$1,299.30 at the Oct 16 close. The PHLX Semiconductor Index, a gauge of US-listed chip stocks, gained 1.61% over the same session, so the flash memory maker rose more than three times as much.

The rebound came after a hard stretch. Even with Monday’s gain, the stock closed 20.73% below its Sept 29 level.

A partial recovery in AI-linked names

Barron’s grouped SanDisk with Lumentum as stocks recovering on Oct 19 from a broad slide in shares tied to artificial intelligence, and noted that CoreWeave stayed out of the rally. CNBC named SanDisk among the biggest movers at midday.

For investors holding Samsung Electronics, SK hynix or other NAND producers, the day offers one sign of whether pressure on memory stocks is letting up. NAND flash is the type of memory used for storage in phones, PCs and data-center drives. One day’s move does not settle that question.

In Japan, a separate risk is building. Margin debt in shares of flash maker Kioxia has piled up, raising the chance of forced selling, Seoul Economic Daily reported on Oct 20 Korean time. Margin debt is money investors borrow to hold shares.

Results that swung from loss to large profit

SanDisk’s latest reported quarter shows how fast its business has grown. In the fiscal fourth quarter, which ended July 3, 2026, revenue reached US$8.965 billion, up 50.67% from the quarter before and 371.59% from a year earlier.

Operating profit came to US$7.037 billion, up 71.17% from the prior quarter and the highest in at least six quarters. In the fiscal third quarter that ended March 28, 2025, the company had posted an operating loss of US$1.881 billion.

Flash prices flat on the month

South Korea’s export price index for flash memory, a gauge of memory-chip prices rather than SanDisk’s own, stood at 245.72 in September 2026 (2020=100). That was 0.69% below August and 244.05% above a year earlier.
