About

Pacific Tape maps the semiconductor supply chain of the Asia-Pacific for investors outside those markets — mainly in Singapore and the United States. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are where it started and where most readers arrive; the map now runs through TSMC and MediaTek in Taiwan, Kioxia, Tokyo Electron and Advantest in Japan, and Micron, Nvidia and the US equipment makers, with the wider Korean market (KOSPI 200, KOSDAQ 150) beside them. A separate map covers the wider US market: every S&P 500, Nasdaq-100 and Dow 30 stock, and the 30 US-listed chip stocks of the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX).

Much of what moves these stocks is reported first in Korean, Japanese or Chinese. This site tries to close that gap with pictures — market maps, investor flows, where a stock sits relative to its recent lows — and a short explanation of each, with the sources named.

What it does not do

It does not tell anyone what to buy or sell, and it does not answer questions about an individual reader's holdings or timing — by email, in comments or anywhere else. There is no paid subscription. See the Disclaimer.

How content is made

The market maps and other daily data pages are built each trading day by the site's own scripts from Korea Exchange, Taiwan Stock Exchange, Tokyo Stock Exchange and US exchange closing prices and Bank of Korea figures, and every chart names its source and as-of time. Explanations and guides are written or reviewed by a person before they are published.

Posts in the Blog section are the author's own. Some first appear in Korean on the author's blog, Binucle's Money Sketch on Naver, and link to that original and its date; others are written in Korean for Pacific Tape readers alone. The author brings both to Pacific Tape in English.

Who writes this

Pacific Tape is written by Binucle, a software developer who also writes Binucle's Money Sketch, a Korean-language blog about the economy and the stock market. The two habits meet here. The market maps and charts on this site come from scripts that gather each day's closing figures from the Korea, Taiwan, Tokyo and US exchanges and the Bank of Korea, and the numbers are checked against those sources before they are published. The Korean blog began as notes to make sense of the market each evening; Pacific Tape is the English side of that work, for readers who follow Asia's chip stocks from Singapore, New York or anywhere else Korean news arrives in translation, if at all. The Blog section carries the author's own posts: some first published on that blog, some written for Pacific Tape alone. Nothing here is investment advice. If something looks wrong, write to contact@pacifictape.com and it will be corrected, with a note.
