Report: SanDisk to supply all storage for Meta VR glasses
A supplier report from DigiTimes landed hours after SanDisk shares closed 5.53% higher, outpacing the PHLX Semiconductor Index.
Meta has picked SanDisk as the only storage supplier for its VR glasses, according to DigiTimes. The Taiwanese outlet did not say what the arrangement is worth, how many units it covers or when shipments begin. SanDisk has not disclosed any terms.
The DigiTimes story went out at 10:43 p.m. New York time on Oct 19, after the Nasdaq had closed. Earlier that day, SanDisk shares had climbed 5.53% to US$1,371.12, up from US$1,299.30 at the Oct 16 close. That gain came before the report, and no reason for it has been given.
A supplier coming off a huge quarter
The report reaches a flash-memory maker whose earnings have surged. In the fiscal fourth quarter, which ended July 3, 2026, SanDisk posted revenue of US$8.965 billion. That was 50.67% above the prior quarter and 371.59% above the same quarter a year earlier.
Operating profit reached US$7.037 billion, a 71.17% jump from the quarter before. It was the highest in at least six quarters. In the fiscal third quarter of 2025, SanDisk had posted an operating loss of US$1.881 billion.
South Korea’s export price index for flash memory gives a broad read on chip prices, not SanDisk’s own. It stood at 245.72 in September 2026. That was 0.69% lower than in August but 244.05% higher than a year before.
Moves across the memory group
In Seoul, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix won back part of their recent losses, Maeil Business Newspaper reported. In Tokyo, investors had piled up heavy margin borrowing in shares of Kioxia, another flash-memory maker, according to Seoul Economic Daily. Margin debt is money borrowed from a broker to fund share purchases.
Still well short of late September
SanDisk’s Oct 19 gain was far bigger than the 1.61% rise in the PHLX Semiconductor Index, a gauge of US-listed chip stocks, over the same session. Even so, the stock was down 20.73% from Sept. 29 to Oct 19.
