TSMC adds a 3nm plant in Taiwan, Chosunbiz reports
Chosunbiz reports a new 3-nanometer plant in Taiwan aimed at a 2028 ramp; it follows a September revenue rise TSMC tied to advanced-process demand and a three-week slide in the shares.
Chosunbiz reported on Oct 19 that TSMC is adding a new chip plant in Taiwan for its 3-nanometer process, one of the company’s most advanced production technologies. According to Chosunbiz, TSMC aims to ramp production at the site in 2028.
TSMC has not confirmed the plant, and no filing on it has been made with the Taiwan Stock Exchange. The company has not said what the plant will cost or where in Taiwan it will stand.
Advanced chips lifted September revenue 54.65%
Chosunbiz linked the plan to quickly growing demand for AI chips. TSMC reported September 2026 revenue of NT$511.86 billion (about US$15.81 billion), up 54.65% from NT$330.98 billion a year earlier. In its report to the exchange, the company said the rise was “due to increased demand for advanced-process products.” A new 3-nanometer plant would add capacity in that part of the business.
September revenue was 0.57% lower than August’s NT$514.81 billion. For January through September, revenue reached about NT$3.9 trillion, a 41.11% increase from the same period of 2025.
Shares slid for three weeks before the report
The report came after the Taiwan market had closed for the week. On Friday, Oct 16, the shares ended at NT$2,420 (about US$74.77 at 32.368 NT dollars per US dollar), down 0.82%. From Sept 23 to Oct 16 the stock fell 3.2% in NT dollar terms and 5.21% in US dollar terms, while the New Taiwan dollar weakened 2.13%, from 31.693 to 32.368 per US dollar.
