Moody's lifts TSMC's credit rating, Taipei Times says
The rating move lands while TSMC's Taipei shares trail their late-September level even as monthly sales keep climbing.
Moody’s has raised its credit rating on TSMC, the Taipei Times reported early on October 22. The newspaper’s report did not give the new grade, the outlook or the reasons behind the decision. Moody’s has not been quoted on the change.
A higher rating from a major agency signals more confidence in a company’s ability to pay its debts. For TSMC, the move comes a few days after it halted work at its Kaohsiung site following the deaths of four workers.
Sales and profit behind the balance sheet
TSMC booked NT$511.86 billion (about US$15.75 billion) in revenue in September, according to its monthly report to the exchange. That was 54.65% above September 2025 and 0.57% below August. Sales for the first nine months totaled NT$3.90 trillion, a 41.11% gain. The company said the increase came from stronger demand for its advanced-process products.
For January through June, the latest half-year results, TSMC earned net income of NT$1.28 trillion on revenue of NT$2.40 trillion. Basic earnings per share were NT$49.33. On August 11, its board approved a cash dividend of NT$7.0 per share for the second quarter, NT$181.53 billion in all.
A weaker NT dollar deepens the slide
The shares last closed at NT$2,405 on October 20, down 0.62% on the day. Between September 29 and that close, they lost 2.83% in NT dollars. Measured in US dollars, the drop was 4.95%, because the NT dollar weakened 2.22% over the same weeks, from 31.797 to 32.504 per US dollar.
