Anthropic IPO filing lifts Korean chip stocks; Samsung payout reported
Four smaller stories about Samsung Electronics and SK hynix from Oct 25 to Oct 27, 2026
Samsung Electronics and SK hynix drew four smaller stories between Oct 25 and Oct 27, 2026, in the days before both companies present third-quarter results on conference calls.
Chip shares climb on Anthropic’s listing plans
Korean chipmakers’ shares rose on Oct 27. Seoul Economic Daily and Korea Economic Daily both linked the rally to Anthropic, which has filed for an initial public offering. According to Seoul Economic Daily, the filing lists Anthropic’s reliance on Samsung and SK hynix for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), the stacked memory used beside AI processors, among its risks.
SK hynix ended the session at 1,341,000 won, 5.18% above its Oct 26 close of 1,275,000 won. Samsung Electronics finished at 222,000 won, up 4.23% from 213,000 won. Both gained more than the TIGER 200 ETF, a fund that tracks the KOSPI 200 index, which rose 3.47%. The KOSPI itself closed 3.09% higher at 5,638.34.
SK hynix holds a conference call on its third-quarter 2026 results on Oct 28 at 09:00 Korea time.
A reported 30 trillion won dividend at Samsung
Samsung has signaled a 30 trillion won dividend (about US$22.7 billion) plus a further 30 trillion won in share repurchases, Seoul Economic Daily reported on Oct 27. No other outlet carried the report.
The company’s most recent repurchase decision, filed Aug 21, covers 53,285,968 common shares worth about 15 trillion won (about US$11.3 billion). Those shares are earmarked for employee stock compensation. Purchases under that program run from Aug 24 through Nov 21, 2026.
Samsung’s latest dividend was a quarterly payout of 374 won per share to holders on record as of June 30. It was paid on Aug 28, 2026.
Regulator moves to fine Samsung over phone ads
On Oct 27, Korea’s Fair Trade Commission, the country’s competition regulator, said it will levy a tentative fine on Samsung Electronics. The penalty concerns advertising for the Galaxy S21 and S22 phones that left out a feature limiting gaming performance. The Chosun Daily identified that feature as the GOS policy.
Outlets disagree on the amount. Yonhap and Korea Times reported 20 billion won ($15.1 million). The Chosun Daily, Maeil Business Newspaper and JoongAng Daily each put the figure at 20.1 billion won.
For scale, Samsung’s preliminary operating profit for the third quarter of 2026 was 107.4 trillion won (about US$81.1 billion), according to the estimate it filed on Oct 8. Samsung reports its results in two steps, an early estimate and then full figures.
US leveraged funds on SK hynix shut down
Tradr, a US fund operator, plans to liquidate two leveraged ETFs tied to SK hynix shares. The closures come roughly three months after the funds launched in the US, according to BusinessKorea, Seoul Economic Daily and JoongAng Daily. Leveraged ETFs aim to multiply a stock’s daily move.
JoongAng Daily said the funds had lost money. Bloomberg and Chosunbiz set the closures against a cooling rally in AI-related stocks.
In a separate report on Oct 27, Maeil Business Newspaper said foreign money was pulling out quickly from single-stock leveraged ETFs on Samsung Electronics and SK hynix.
