Samsung's earnings call follows a 9.01% jump in its shares
Samsung Electronics gives full third-quarter detail on Oct 29, after a one-day surge that still left its stock below where it stood when it first estimated the quarter.
Samsung Electronics holds a conference call at 10:00 a.m. Korea time (KST) on Oct 29 to go through its full third-quarter results. The company has already put a number on the quarter. On Oct 8 it estimated operating profit at 107.4 trillion won (about US$80.3 billion) on revenue of 195 trillion won (about US$145.8 billion). It disclosed the call date in a filing that same day.
The call follows the stock’s sharpest rally in more than two months. Samsung shares closed up 9.01% at 242,000 won on Oct 28, about US$180.91 at 1,337.7 won per dollar. The event reaches well beyond one company for investors abroad. Samsung’s market value of about 1,414.8 trillion won (about US$1.06 trillion) was 30.83% of the total market value of the KOSPI 200, Korea’s benchmark index of large companies, on Oct 28.
Profit has grown in every quarter since mid-2025
The Oct 8 figures are preliminary. Samsung files an early estimate first, and the full results follow weeks later, as this explainer on its two-step reporting sets out. On that early basis, operating profit was 20.01% higher than the 89.49 trillion won of the second quarter. It was 782.5% higher than the 12.17 trillion won Samsung earned in the third quarter of 2025.
Revenue grew 13.7% from the prior quarter and 126.59% from a year earlier. The estimated profit is the highest in at least six quarters, counting back to the second quarter of 2025. Each quarter in that run has topped the one before it:
| Quarter | Operating profit (trillion won) |
|---|---|
| Q2 2025 | 4.68 |
| Q3 2025 | 12.17 |
| Q4 2025 | 20.07 |
| Q1 2026 | 57.23 |
| Q2 2026 | 89.49 |
| Q3 2026 (preliminary) | 107.4 |
The early estimate gives only totals for revenue and profit. The call is where Samsung fills in the detail behind them.
Prices for Korean memory chips abroad have also climbed. The Bank of Korea’s export price index for DRAM, measured in US dollars with 2020 set at 100, stood at 289.16 in September 2026. That was 2.26% above August and 247.72% above September 2025. The index covers Korea’s DRAM exports as a whole. It does not track the prices Samsung itself charges.
A 9.01% surge that left October’s slide in place
The Oct 28 gain was the stock’s largest in one session since Aug 20, when it rose 9.49%. Forty-four sessions passed between the two moves. The wider market rallied with it. The KOSPI ended Oct 28 at 6,012.44, up 6.63%. Foreign investors made net purchases of 827 billion won (about US$618 million) of KOSPI shares that day. That figure covers the whole market, not Samsung on its own. The day is covered in our report on the eve-of-call jump.
The rally did not undo the month’s losses. From the Oct 8 close, the day of the profit estimate, to the Oct 28 close, the stock lost 7.63% in won. In US dollars the drop was 7.58%, because the won barely moved against the dollar over that stretch. Over the 20 sessions to Oct 28, the shares were down 10.37%.
The steepest fall came on Oct 15. That day the stock lost 9.48% to close at 210,000 won, during a chip rout that tripped Korea’s circuit breakers. By Oct 28 it had climbed back to 242,000 won.
A busy night before the call
The call lands after a crowded overnight session abroad. JoongAng Daily ran live coverage on the morning of Oct 29 tracking how Korean markets respond to Samsung’s results. The paper noted that Big Tech companies had reported earnings and that the US Federal Reserve had announced a decision overnight.
Samsung’s share repurchase program is also still underway. In an Aug 21 filing, the company set out to acquire 53,285,968 common shares for about 15 trillion won (about US$11.2 billion). It plans to use the shares as stock compensation for employees. The repurchase window opened on Aug 24 and is scheduled to close on Nov 21, 2026.
