TIME list picks three Samsung products as shares edge up

Samsung Electronics says TIME magazine has chosen three of its products for The Best Inventions of 2026. Its shares rose on the day but remain far below their late-September level.

TIME, the US weekly news magazine, has published its annual selection, The Best Inventions of 2026, and Samsung Electronics says three of its products are on it. The company made the statement on Friday, October 16, Korean time. TIME released the list on Thursday, local time in the United States.

Yonhap carried the news at 09:16 KST on Friday, and The Korea Times also reported it.

A flagship phone and a Bespoke AI appliance

The best-known of the three is the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung’s top-end smartphone. TIME placed it in the Consumer Electronics category, The Korea Times reported. The same Korea Times report also refers to a product from Samsung’s Bespoke AI range, the company’s line of connected home appliances.

No filing for the list, one for the quarter

No regulatory filing on the matter appeared on DART, Korea’s electronic disclosure system for listed companies. A place on a magazine list is a marketing matter rather than a financial event, and Samsung announced it to the media.

The company’s most recent filing came on October 8: preliminary consolidated results for the third quarter of 2026, with revenue of 195 trillion won and operating profit of 107.4 trillion won. That operating profit was up 20.01% from the second quarter and 782.5% from a year earlier, and is the highest in at least six quarters. Samsung is scheduled to hold a conference call on those results on October 29 at 10:00 KST. Its current share buyback, decided on August 21 as a repurchase of 53,285,968 common shares worth 15 trillion won for employee stock compensation, runs until November 21.

A 2.62% gain in a rising market

Samsung shares, which trade in won on the KOSPI, closed at 215,500 won on October 16, up 2.62% from 210,000 won the day before. At the Bank of Korea’s October 16 reference rate of 1,331.4 won to the dollar, that close was equal to about US$161.86 a share. The TIGER 200 fund, which tracks the KOSPI 200 index of large Korean companies, gained 2.05% over the same window, which makes it hard to attribute the rise to the TIME news; a general rise in Korean shares appears to explain much of it. From September 22 to October 16, Samsung shares fell 22.06%, and Friday’s gain recovers only a small part of that decline.
