Korean regulators say a Solidigm US listing would breach local rules
Korea's financial regulators see a possible US listing of SK hynix's Solidigm unit as a breach of dual-listing curbs, but have not decided whether they can block it.
Korea’s two main financial regulators believe that a US listing of Solidigm, a subsidiary of SK hynix, would break the country’s rules on dual listings, in which a parent and its unit trade as separate listed companies. The Korea Herald reported the view on Monday, Oct 19, 2026.
The view given at a parliamentary audit
Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) Governor Lee Chan-jin gave the view at a parliamentary audit. He was answering a question from Rep. Park Seong-hoon of the People Power Party. The Korea Herald reported that Lee spoke for both the FSS and the Financial Services Commission (FSC).
A listing that has not been confirmed
The listing is only a possibility, and no plan for it has been confirmed. According to The Korea Herald, regulators still have to work out whether they have the legal power to step in if Solidigm pursues one. They have not said when they will decide. No response from SK hynix to the regulators’ position has been reported.
A fifth of the KOSPI 200
On Oct 16, SK hynix’s market value was about 929.19 trillion won, or 21.55% of the KOSPI 200’s total. In the second quarter of 2026, its consolidated revenue was 79.32 trillion won, up 256.78% from a year earlier. Operating profit was 60.54 trillion won, up 557.15%. That was the highest quarterly operating profit in at least six quarters.
The regulators spoke after a steep slide in the stock. SK hynix fell 31.69% in won between Sep 23 and Oct 16, 2026, or 30.3% in US dollars as the won firmed from 1,358.4 to 1,331.4 per dollar. The slide included an 11.06% fall on Oct 15 and the worst week for Samsung and SK hynix since 2008. The last close before the comments was 1,272,000 won on Oct 16, about US$955.39 at the Bank of Korea rate, after a 0.79% gain that session.
SK hynix is scheduled to hold a conference call on its third-quarter 2026 results on Oct 28 at 09:00 KST.
